The main focus of workshop is to understand the necessity of reconsidering heritage in a broad perspective, including non-historical buildings and infrastructures that can be reused for new functions, using their key locations as pivotal assets for reconnecting center and suburbs.
Implies issues such as converting buildings & uses, connecting green corridors and residential neighborhoods through these areas, avoiding gentrification and social exclusion, etc.
Goals of Workshop¹
- To explore the idea of juxtaposition of two or more ‘times’.
- To introduce the idea and practices of up-cycling, urban agriculture, green corridors.
- To understand practices of revitalization of former industrial areas in the context of rent-gap, rise of the ‘creative class’ and gentrification.
- To introduce issues of historical preservation, heritage and memory to industrial conversion.
